Luis Gonzalez Biography

Luis Emilio Gonzalez, born on September 3, 1967, is an American former baseball outfielder who played 19 seasons in Major League Baseball for seven teams. Gonzalez spent his best years with the Arizona Diamondbacks and was one of the most popular players in the organization's history. Gonzalez was a five-time All-Star and won a Silver Slugger Award in 2001. Luis Gonzalez hit 354 career home runs and was recognized for his ability to drive the ball into open space between outfielders. Gonzalez was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 4th round of the 1988 June draft. Gonzalez compiled a .312 batting average with 5 home runs and 10 doubles across 39 games for Auburn prior to his promotion to the Asheville Tourists. The year 1991 became the first full season of Gonzalez's career.
