Lou Brock Biography

Lou Brock was born on June 18, 1939, and passed away on September 6, 2020, as an American professional baseball left fielder. He began his 19-year Major League Baseball career with the 1961 Chicago Cubs and later played most of his career as a left fielder for the St. Louis Cardinals. Brock was selected as an All-Star for six seasons and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985, his first year of eligibility. He is best known for his base-stealing ability, leading the National League in stolen bases in eight seasons and setting major league records for most steals in a single season and in a career. During his junior year at Southern University, the team won the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics baseball championship, and Brock was named to the United States baseball team for the 1959 Pan American Games. In 1961, while assigned to the St. Cloud Rox, Brock won the Northern League batting championship with a .361 average. Lou Brock hit a home run into the center-field bleachers at the old Polo Grounds in 1962, joining three others since 1923 to achieve the feat.
