Lionel Andrés Messi was born on 24 June 1987 and has played as a forward for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer and the Argentina national team. He has received eight Ballons d'Or, six European Golden Shoes, and has been named the world's best player by FIFA multiple times. Messi has won 46 team trophies, making him the most decorated player in professional football history. He has scored over 920 senior career goals and provided more than 410 assists for club and country. In 2004, Messi made his competitive debut for Barcelona at age 17. By the 2011–12 season, he had set the European record for most goals in a season and became Barcelona's all-time top scorer. In 2018 Lionel Messi assumed the role of team captain for Barcelona.
