Leonard Marshall Biography

Leonard Allen Marshall Jr. was born on October 22, 1961, and played as a defensive lineman in the National Football League for twelve seasons. He recorded 79.5 sacks during his tenure with the New York Giants, placing him third in team history for that statistic. Marshall earned Pro Bowl honors twice and was named NFL Defensive Lineman of the Year in both 1985 and 1986. His 1991 hit on Joe Montana ended Montana's participation in the NFC championship game, leading to a prolonged absence from regular season play. After his time with the Giants, Marshall played one season each with the New York Jets and Washington Redskins before retiring at age 33. He played college football at Louisiana State University prior to his professional career. Marshall was chosen in the second round with the 37th overall pick by the New York Giants in the 1983 NFL draft.
