Larry Edward Coker, born on June 23, 1948, is an American former college football coach and player. Coker served as head football coach at the University of Miami from 2001 to 2006 and at the University of Texas at San Antonio from 2011 to 2016. His 2001 Miami team was named consensus national champion after an undefeated season that ended with a Rose Bowl victory over Nebraska. He has served as an assistant coach at several universities, including Ohio State, the University of Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State. In 1971, Coker became head coach of the Fairfax Red Devils and won two Oklahoma State football titles within a few years. After Butch Davis was hired by the NFL's Cleveland Browns, Coker was promoted to head coach, having previously served as offensive coordinator. The Hurricanes won their first 12 games in 2002, extending a winning streak back to 2000 to 34 games and giving Coker a 24–0 record heading into the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, which served as the BCS National Championship Game.
