Lance Alworth Biography

Lance Dwight Alworth, born August 3, 1940, played as a wide receiver in the AFL and NFL, including stints with the San Diego Chargers and Dallas Cowboys. Alworth played 11 seasons from 1962 to 1972 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1978. Lance Alworth accumulated 15 letters while attending high school. Alworth helped Arkansas win or share three consecutive Southwest Conference titles between 1959 and 1961, with 25 wins during that span. He was named MVP of the 1961 Cotton Bowl Classic after returning a punt for a touchdown. Alworth was honored by the University of Arkansas Hall of Honor and the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame, and he was named to the 1960s All-Decade Team and the All-Century Team in 1994. He was selected eighth overall in the 1962 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.
