Lamarr Hoyt Biography

Dewey LaMarr Hoyt Jr. was an American professional baseball right-handed pitcher born on January 1, 1955, and passed away on November 29, 2021. He played in Major League Baseball for the Chicago White Sox and San Diego Padres from 1979 to 1986. The New York Yankees selected Hoyt in the fifth round of the 1973 Major League Baseball draft. Hoyt transitioned from relief pitching in 1980 to starting in 1982, achieving nine consecutive wins to match a team record. In 1983, Hoyt won the American League Cy Young Award. Hoyt finished the season with a 15–2 record and 3.16 ERA in his final 18 starts of the season. The White Sox faltered in 1984, as Hoyt's record fell to 13–18 with a 4.47 ERA.
