Kirby Smart Biography

Kirby Paul Smart is an American football coach and former player who has served in various roles within collegiate football. He holds the position of head football coach at the University of Georgia, the institution where he once played as a student-athlete. Smart earned four-year letterman status at defensive back for Georgia and was named a first-team All-SEC selection during his senior season. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Terry College of Business in 1998, earning a bachelor's degree in finance. His coaching journey began at the University of Georgia in 1999, starting as an administrative assistant. In 2004, he served as defensive backs coach at LSU under head coach Nick Saban. He returned to the Georgia Bulldogs program in 2005 to work as running backs coach.
