Kevin O'Connell Biography

Kevin William O'Connell, born on May 25, 1985, is an American professional football coach and former quarterback who serves as head coach for the Minnesota Vikings in the National Football League. He played college football for the San Diego State Aztecs from 2004 to 2007 and had a five-season NFL playing career from 2008 to 2012, including a stint with the New York Jets from 2009 to 2011. The New England Patriots selected Kevin O'Connell in the third round of the 2008 NFL draft as part of his professional playing career. O'Connell began his NFL coaching career in 2015, holding various assistant coaching roles with the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins, and Los Angeles Rams, where he served as offensive coordinator during the 2021 season. Kevin O'Connell guided the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC North division title in his first season as head coach and reached the postseason in two of his first three years in the role. Bill O'Connell, a different individual, played football for Villanova University in Villanova, a western suburb of Philadelphia. On February 1, 2003, O'Connell committed to play football for Tom Craft's San Diego State Aztecs football team.
