Ken Griffey Jr. Biography

George Kenneth Griffey Jr. was born on November 21, 1969, and is widely known by the nicknames Junior and the Kid. He played the majority of his professional career with the Seattle Mariners and Cincinnati Reds, and also had a brief period with the Chicago White Sox. Selected first overall in the 1987 draft, Griffey earned 13 All-Star selections and is regarded as one of baseball's greatest players. His career total of 630 home runs ranks seventh in MLB history. Griffey has won 10 Gold Glove Awards, recognizing his excellence as a center fielder. He is tied with Don Mattingly and Dale Long for the record of most consecutive games with a home run, which stands at eight. In 2016, Griffey was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on his first ballot, receiving 99.32% of the vote, a record that surpassed Tom Seaver's 98.84%.
