Kelly Hrudey, born January 13, 1961, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender and broadcaster who has served as a studio analyst for Hockey Night in Canada and a colour commentator for Calgary Flames regional broadcasts. Kelly Hrudey played in the NHL for the New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings, and San Jose Sharks between 1983 and 1998. He played junior ice hockey for three years with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League, earning a spot on the WHL Second All-Star Team during the 1980–81 season. During the 1984–85 season, Hrudey began splitting goaltending duties with the New York Islanders after Billy Smith had secured the starting role, marking his first full season with the team. On April 18, 1987, Hrudey guarded the Islanders' net through four overtimes before Pat LaFontaine ended the franchise's longest game after 68:47 of overtime. His record of 73 saves in a single game stood as an NHL mark until Joonas Korpisalo made 85 saves in a five-overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on August 11, 2020. In the 1994 NHL entry draft, the Los Angeles Kings selected goaltender Jamie Storr seventh overall, leading them to let Hrudey test free agency after his contract expired.
