Josh Heupel Biography

Joshua Kenneth Heupel, born on March 22, 1978, is an American college football coach and former player serving as head football coach at the University of Tennessee. Heupel previously held the head coaching position at the University of Central Florida, where he achieved a 28–8 record over his tenure. Heupel played college football as a quarterback, most prominently for the Oklahoma Sooners during his collegiate career. During his time at Oklahoma, he earned consensus All-American honors and helped lead the team to the 2000 BCS National Championship. After attempting to secure an NFL roster spot with the Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers, Heupel transitioned into coaching. In December 2017, Heupel was appointed head coach at the University of Central Florida. Heupel led the Sooners to an undefeated season and a national championship with a 13–2 win over Florida State in the 2001 Orange Bowl.
