John Gibson, born on July 14, 1993, is an American professional ice hockey goaltender who has played in the National Hockey League. Drafted 39th overall in the second round on June 24, 2011, Gibson was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the NHL entry draft. Despite being cut from his high school hockey team while attending Baldwin High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Gibson went on to play in the NHL. He represented the United States at the 2013 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships during the 2012–13 season. Gibson made his professional debut with the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League on April 19, 2013, playing 40 minutes in relief. He became the youngest NHL goaltender to record a shutout in his debut since Daren Puppa in 1985, at 20 years and 223 days. For the 2014–15 NHL season, the Anaheim Ducks announced that both Frederik Andersen and Gibson would compete for the starting goaltender position.
