Joey Votto Biography

Joseph Daniel Votto, born on September 10, 1983, played his entire 17-year MLB career with the Cincinnati Reds from 2007 to 2023. He is the second Canadian player to record 2,000 hits, 300 home runs, and 1,000 runs batted in in MLB history. Votto has earned six All-Star selections, seven Tip O'Neill Awards, and two Lou Marsh Trophies as Canada's athlete of the year. In 2010, he received the National League Most Valuable Player Award and the Hank Aaron Award. At retirement during the 2024 season, he ranked first in career walks with 1,365, third in on-base percentage at .409, and fourth in on-base plus slugging at .920. The Cincinnati Reds drafted Votto in the second round with the 44th overall pick in the 2002 MLB draft. In 2004, he returned to Dayton, where he hit 26 doubles and 14 home runs with a .302 batting average in 111 games.
