Joe Theismann, born on September 9, 1949, is an American former professional football player, sports commentator, corporate speaker, and restaurateur. He has played quarterback in both the National Football League and the Canadian Football League. Theismann spent 12 seasons with the Washington Redskins, earning two Pro Bowl selections and leading the team to two Super Bowl appearances. He played college football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003. Theismann has served as a color analyst on NFL Network's Thursday Night Football broadcasts with Bob Papa and Matt Millen. He accepted a college football scholarship to attend the University of Notre Dame, where he lived in Zahm Hall. In 1969, Theismann led the Irish to a number five national ranking, but the team lost to the University of Texas in the 1970 Cotton Bowl Classic with a final score of 21–17.
