Joseph James Pavelski, born on July 11, 1984, played 18 seasons in the National Hockey League for the San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars. Pavelski played college hockey for the Wisconsin Badgers after high school. He earned the nickname Little Joe and scored in his first NHL game, becoming the 11th San Jose Sharks player to do so. Pavelski won a Wisconsin State Hockey Championship with the SPASH Panthers in 2002. He was named to the All-WCHA Rookie Team in 2005 and earned recognition on the All-WCHA Second Team and the Men's RBK Division I West All-America Second Team. Pavelski began his NHL career during the 2006–07 season. During the 2007–08 season, he played in all 82 regular season games and all 13 playoff games for the San Jose Sharks.
