Joe Morris Biography

Joseph Edward Morris, born on September 15, 1960, played as a running back in the NFL for the New York Giants from 1982 to 1988. Standing at 5' 7", Morris was a vital part of the Giants team that captured Super Bowl XXI in 1987. He served as a four-year starter at Syracuse University in upstate New York. At Syracuse, Morris accumulated 4,229 rushing yards over four seasons, surpassing legends like Jim Brown and Floyd Little. In 1985, he rushed for 1,336 yards and 21 touchdowns, including a 141-yard performance in a 17–3 playoff victory over the San Francisco 49ers. During the Giants’ playoff run to the Lombardi Trophy, Morris gained 313 yards across three games, including a 159-yard, two-touchdown effort against the 49ers. As of 2017, Joe Morris held at least 19 Giants franchise records, primarily tied to his standout postseason performances.
