Joe Gibbs, born November 25, 1940, is an American former football coach and auto racing team owner. He served as head coach of the Washington Redskins from 1981 to 1992 and again from 2004 to 2007, achieving nine playoff appearances and three Super Bowl victories. Gibbs earned NFL Coach of the Year honors in 1982 and 1983, recognized for his strategic excellence and ability to win with diverse talent. He remains the only head coach to win Super Bowls with three different starting quarterbacks, a distinction highlighting his adaptability and leadership. In 1992, he co-founded Joe Gibbs Racing, a NASCAR team that has since captured five Cup Series championships. Gibbs earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1964 and a master's degree in 1966 from San Diego State University. He joined the NFL as offensive backfield coach for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1973 to 1977 under head coach Don Coryell.
