Jim Taylor Biography

James Charles Taylor played ten seasons in the NFL as a fullback, primarily with the Green Bay Packers from 1958 to 1966 and later with the expansion New Orleans Saints in 1967. Taylor was selected to five consecutive Pro Bowls and won four NFL championships, including victory in the first Super Bowl. He earned NFL Most Valuable Player honors after winning the rushing title in 1962, finishing ahead of Jim Brown. Known for his aggressive style and frequent trash talk, Taylor developed notable rivalries, including one with New York Giants linebacker Sam Huff. At LSU, Taylor led the SEC in scoring in 1956 and 1957 and earned first-team All-America honors as a senior. Taylor concluded his career with 1,941 carries for 8,597 yards and 83 touchdowns. When Texas Tech concentrated on limiting Taylor, Cannon achieved one of his most effective performances.
