James Robert McMahon Jr. was born on August 21, 1959, and played 15 seasons in the National Football League as a professional quarterback. He earned first-team All-American honors in 1980 while playing college football for the BYU Cougars. McMahon received the Davey O'Brien Award and the Sammy Baugh Trophy in the year following his All-American recognition. He was selected fifth overall by the Chicago Bears in the 1982 NFL draft. In 1998, McMahon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. His most notable professional achievement came with the 1985 Chicago Bears, who won Super Bowl XX. McMahon concluded his career in a backup role, including time with the team that won Super Bowl XXXI.
