Jim Burt Biography

James P. Burt, born on June 7, 1959, was an American professional football player who served as a nose tackle in the National Football League. Burt was part of the New York Giants team that won Super Bowl XXI and later joined the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl XXIV. He played college football at the University of Miami and was later honored with induction into the school's sports hall of fame. In his 1987 book Point of Attack: The Defense Strikes Back, coach Bill Parcells was described as being particularly demanding toward Burt during practice sessions. After a 37–13 home victory over the Washington Redskins on October 28, Burt responded to Parcells' criticism by dousing him with a cooler of water. Despite having retired, Burt returned to play in 1989 with the San Francisco 49ers, continuing his career with the team. During the 2006 season, he traveled to Dallas to support his former coach Parcells, who was then leading the Dallas Cowboys.
