Jim Boeheim Biography

James Arthur Boeheim Jr. born on November 17, 1944, served as a college basketball coach and later held the role of Special Assistant to the Athletic Director at Syracuse University. From 1976 until 2023, he served as head coach for the Syracuse Orange men's basketball team in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Boeheim led the Orange to ten Big East regular season titles, five Big East tournament wins, and 34 NCAA tournament appearances, including five Final Four appearances. During the 2021–22 season, he coached both of his sons, Jimmy and Buddy Boeheim, on the Syracuse team. On April 2, 2022, he became the winningest active coach in Division I basketball following the retirement of Mike Krzyzewski. Boeheim began his collegiate journey at Syracuse University in 1962, where he earned a bachelor's degree in social science. In 1969, he began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Syracuse under Roy Danforth.
