Jerry West Biography

Jerry Alan West was born on May 28, 1938, and passed away on June 12, 2024, as an American basketball player and executive. He played professionally for the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA and is widely recognized as one of the greatest players in basketball history. West led the West Virginia Mountaineers to the 1959 NCAA championship game during his college career. He was selected to the All-NBA First or Second Team 12 times, named to the NBA All-Star Team 14 times, and earned All-Star MVP honors in 1972. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980 and named to the NBA 35th Anniversary Team that same year. West was honored as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996 and later named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021. After serving as a player-scout, he became general manager of the Lakers prior to the 1982–83 NBA season.
