Jerry Kramer, born on January 23, 1936, played professional football and later worked as an author and sports commentator. He played 11 years as a guard and kicker with the Green Bay Packers in the National Football League. After playing college football at Idaho, Kramer was chosen by Green Bay in the fourth round of the 1958 NFL draft. Kramer played a key role in the Packers sweep by shifting quickly from standard guard positions to block for halfbacks running around the end. Kramer earned All-Pro honors five times and was selected for the NFL 50th Anniversary All-Time Team. Jerry Kramer's jersey number 64 was retired by the university in 1963, coinciding with his 27th birthday, following his use of numbers 57 and 74 during his college years. In 1958, Jerry Kramer started all games during his rookie season under head coach Ray Scooter McLean as the Packers recorded a 1–10–1 record, the worst in the league.
