Jeremy Shockey was born on August 18, 1980, and played as a tight end in the National Football League. He earned first-team All-American honors in 2002 while playing college football for the Miami Hurricanes. Shockey won the first-ever Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year Award in 2002 and later earned four Pro Bowl selections. As a sophomore in 2000, he caught the game-winning touchdown pass with :46 remaining in the fourth quarter, helping #7 Miami defeat top ranked Florida State 27–24. He was a key member of the national championship Miami team in 2001. After achieving national champion and All-American status, he declared himself eligible for the NFL draft following the 2001 season. Shockey was featured in the ESPN documentary The U, which premiered on December 12, 2009.
