Christopher Jason Witten, born on May 6, 1982, is an American football coach and former player who has served as the tight ends coach for the Oklahoma Sooners. Witten has played in the National Football League for 17 seasons, primarily as a tight end with the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football for the Tennessee Volunteers and was chosen by the Cowboys in the third round of the 2003 NFL draft. After his tenure with the Cowboys, Witten joined the Las Vegas Raiders for the 2020 season. His grandfather, Dave Rider, coached the football team where Witten played both linebacker and tight end as a two-way player. Witten became a three-year starter, playing linebacker and tight end, while helping his team reach the state semi-finals three times. In 2000, Witten joined the University of Tennessee on a scholarship after being assured by head coach Phillip Fulmer he would play as a defensive end.
