Jason Varitek Biography

Jason Andrew Varitek, born April 11, 1972, is an American professional baseball coach and former catcher known by the nickname "Tek". He served in a uniformed coaching role as game planning coordinator for the Boston Red Sox in Major League Baseball. After being traded as a minor league prospect by the Seattle Mariners, Varitek spent his entire 15-year career with the Boston Red Sox. A three-time All-Star and Gold Glove Award winner at catcher, Varitek was part of the 2004 and 2007 World Series Championship teams. Varitek is one of three players to have competed in the Little League World Series, College World Series, and MLB World Series. He played in the 1984 Little League World Series, leading his Altamonte Springs, Florida, team to a 4–2 victory over Southport, Indiana. Varitek attended Georgia Tech, where he helped lead the Yellow Jackets to the 1994 College World Series title game.
