John Harold Lambert, born on July 8, 1952, played as a linebacker for 11 seasons in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990, he served as the starting middle linebacker on four Super Bowl-winning Steelers teams. In 2019, Jack Lambert was selected to the NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. The university named its football field Jack Lambert Stadium in recognition of his contributions. Despite Kent State's loss in the 1972 Tangerine Bowl, Lambert earned MVP honors for his performance. Lambert's weight increased from 187 pounds as a freshman to 217 pounds by his senior year, then settled at 203 pounds after the season. A recurring case of turf toe during the 1984 season led to his retirement from professional football.
