Jack Clark Biography

Jack Anthony Clark, born November 10, 1955, was an American professional baseball player who played as a right fielder and first baseman. He has played in Major League Baseball for the San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, and Boston Red Sox from 1975 to 1992. During his peak years, Clark was recognized as one of the most powerful right-handed hitters in the National League, earning the Silver Slugger Award in 1985 and 1987. Over an 18-season career, he maintained a .267 batting average with 340 home runs and 1,180 runs batted in across 1,994 games. Clark began his professional baseball journey in 1973 with the Great Falls Giants, where he played outfield and third base and recorded a 0-2 record in five games as a pitcher. In 1987, despite a strained relationship with St. Louis All-Star shortstop Ozzie Smith, Clark achieved his most productive season. Prior to the 1988 season, he signed a two-year contract to join the New York Yankees.
