J.J. McCarthy Biography

Jonathan James McCarthy, born January 20, 2003, is an American professional football quarterback who has played in the National Football League. McCarthy earned Big Ten Quarterback of the Year honors after leading the Michigan Wolverines to a 15–0 record and a national championship in 2023. He achieved a 27–1 record as a starting quarterback, maintaining a .964 winning percentage in NCAA Division I FBS history. McCarthy led his high school team at Nazareth to a 26–2 record with two consecutive appearances in the IHSA Class 7A state championship game, winning the title as a sophomore in 2018. In his only season at IMG, McCarthy guided his team to an 8–0 record and a consensus national championship. He committed to the University of Michigan in May 2019 and enrolled in 2021. McCarthy made his debut on September 4, 2021, completing four of six passes for 80 yards, including a 69-yard touchdown pass to Daylen Baldwin.
