Hope Solo Biography

Hope Amelia Stevens, born on July 30, 1981, played as a soccer goalkeeper for the United States national team between 2000 and 2016. She is a World Cup champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist. Solo is regarded as one of the top female goalkeepers of all time and holds the U.S. record for most career shutouts. Following her benching by coach Greg Ryan in favor of Briana Scurry for the semifinal, Solo's post-game comments led to her being distanced by several teammates after the 4–0 loss to Brazil. Following her second Olympic gold medal at the 2012 London Games, she released the best-selling memoir Solo: A Memoir of Hope. Solo served as the starting goalkeeper when the U.S. secured their third World Cup title since 1991 at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. Hope Solo achieved 202 appearances, 190 starts, 153 wins, 102 shutouts, 26 wins in a season, 1,256 consecutive minutes played, and a 55-game undefeated streak as U.S. national team goalkeeper.
