Harry Carson Biography

Harry Donald Carson, born November 26, 1953, played his entire professional football career as a linebacker for the New York Giants in the NFL. Harry Carson received recognition in 2002, 2006, and 2018 through inductions into the College Football Hall of Fame, the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and the New Jersey Hall of Fame respectively. He played college football for South Carolina State University from 1972 to 1975, missing no games during his four-year tenure. As team captain in 1975, Carson led a defense that recorded six shutouts and allowed only 29 points in a ten-game season, an NCAA record. His college teammates included future Steelers safety Donnie Shell and former Kansas City Royals first baseman Willie Mays Aikens. Carson was selected 105th overall in the 1976 NFL Draft by the Giants after his college career. He concluded his career at the end of the 1988 season, having contributed to the Giants’ Super Bowl XXI victory with seven tackles.
