Hank Aaron Biography

Henry Louis Aaron, nicknamed Hammer or Hammerin' Hank, played 23 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1954 to 1976. He spent 21 seasons with the Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves in the National League and two with the Milwaukee Brewers in the American League. At retirement, he held most of the game's key career power-hitting records. Aaron holds the MLB records for most career runs batted in with 2,297, extra base hits with 1,477, and total bases with 6,856. He is one of only five players to have at least 17 seasons with 150 or more hits and holds the record for most seasons with 30 or more home runs at 15. Aaron won three Gold Glove Awards and earned the NL Most Valuable Player Award in 1957 when the Milwaukee Braves won the World Series. The Hank Aaron Award was established in 1999 to honor the top offensive player in each league.
