Gregory James LeMond, born on June 26, 1961, is an American former road racing cyclist. Greg LeMond claimed victory in the Tour de France on three occasions and secured two Road Race World Championship titles, making him the sole American man to win the Tour. Greg LeMond started his professional cycling journey in the year 1981. He won the Tour de France in 1986, becoming the first non-European professional cyclist to win the men's Tour. Wayne Wong, a freestyle skiing pioneer, suggested cycling as a training alternative during the off-season, leading to LeMond's initial involvement in the sport in 1975. At fifteen years old in 1977, LeMond placed second in the Tour of Fresno behind John Howard, who had won the 1971 Pan American Games. At age 18, LeMond was selected for the 1980 U.S. Olympic cycling team, the youngest ever to make the team.
