Gerald Michael Cheevers, born on December 7, 1940, was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who played in the NHL and WHA from 1961 to 1980. Cheevers played a key role in helping the Boston Bruins win the Stanley Cup in 1970 and again in 1972. He recorded over 300 wins across his professional career in two major leagues. During his final junior season, he played part of the year as a forward. In the 1961–62 season, he began with the Sault Thunderbirds, a farm team for the Toronto Maple Leafs, appearing in 29 games with a 13–13–3 record and a 3.55 GAA. In the 1962–63 season, he split time between teams, starting 51 games for the Sudbury Wolves in the EPHL. During the 1963–64 season, he started 66 regular season games, finishing with a 38–25–2 record, three shutouts, and a 2.84 GAA.
