George Martin Biography

George Dwight Martin, born February 16, 1953, played his entire NFL career as a defensive end for the New York Giants from 1975 to 1988. George Martin played in all but six games over his 14-year professional career. Martin contributed to the 1986 Giants team that achieved a franchise record of 14 wins in a single season. In January 1987, he served as a team captain during Super Bowl XXI, recording a safety late in the second quarter. That safety was the first of twenty-six consecutive points scored by the Giants in the game. On September 16, 2007, Martin began a walk from New York City’s George Washington Bridge to San Diego. George Martin reached San Diego on June 21, 2008 following a walk exceeding 3,000 miles.
