George Kirby Biography

George Joseph Kirby, born on February 4, 1998, is an American professional baseball pitcher who has played for the Seattle Mariners in Major League Baseball. He made his MLB debut in 2022 after progressing through the Mariners' minor league system. The Seattle Mariners selected Kirby in the first round of the 2019 MLB draft following his collegiate career at Elon University. In 2015, after his junior season, he was named to the New York State Sportswriters Association's All-State first team as a pitcher and first baseman. As a freshman at Elon in 2017, he appeared in 16 games with five starts, posting a 1–3 record and a 4.84 ERA while recording 55 strikeouts in 61 and one-third innings. Prior to the 2019 season, he was recognized as a preseason All-American by Baseball America and Perfect Game. During the 2020 season, which was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he trained at the Mariners' alternate site in Tacoma.
