Eugene Clifton Stallings Jr. was born on March 2, 1935, and became a prominent American football coach and former player. He played college football at Texas A&M from 1954 to 1956 as part of the "Junction Boys" and later served as head coach there from 1965 to 1971. Stallings held head coaching roles with the St. Louis/Phoenix Cardinals in the NFL from 1986 to 1989 and at the University of Alabama from 1990 to 1996. His 1992 Alabama team achieved a perfect 13–0 season, culminating in a Sugar Bowl victory over Miami and a consensus national championship. He also served on the Board of Regents for the Texas A&M University System, contributing to higher education governance. In 1957, he began his coaching career as a freshman coach at Texas A&M, and in 1958, he joined Bear Bryant’s staff at Alabama as the ends coach. Shortly after assisting Alabama in winning the 1964 national title, Stallings was appointed head coach at Texas A&M at age 29.
