Gary Williams Biography

Gary Bruce Williams, born on March 4, 1945, is an American university administrator and former college basketball coach. He served as the head coach at the University of Maryland, Ohio State University, Boston College, and American University. Williams concluded his coaching career following the 2010–11 season. During his playing days, he was the starting point guard for Maryland under coach Bud Millikan. In 1966, he achieved a perfect 8-for-8 field goal performance in an ACC game against South Carolina, a record that stood for 35 years. He was named team captain for Maryland in 1967. His first head coaching role began in 1978 at American University.
