Garry Douglas Unger, born on December 7, 1947, played 16 seasons in the National Hockey League from 1967 to 1983. He set an NHL record with 914 consecutive regular season games played between February 24, 1968, and December 21, 1979. Unger surpassed Andy Hebenton's record of 630 consecutive games, which had lasted since the 1963-64 season. He finished his career with 1105 NHL games, 413 goals, 391 assists, 804 points, and 1075 penalty minutes. Unger was named MVP of the 1974 NHL All-Star Game, which took place in Chicago. After retiring from the NHL, he began his first season with Tom Stewarts Dundee Rockets in 1985. During that season, he played 41 games and recorded 93 goals and 54 assists.
