Fred Biletnikoff Biography

Frederick Biletnikoff was born on February 23, 1943, and is an American former professional football player and coach. He played as a wide receiver for the Oakland Raiders in the AFL and NFL for 14 seasons and later served as an assistant coach with the team. Although he lacked breakaway speed, Biletnikoff was known for his sure hands and consistency, often making spectacular catches. He played college football for the Florida State Seminoles and earned consensus All-American honors as a senior after leading the nation in receiving yards and touchdowns. The Fred Biletnikoff Award is presented annually to the most outstanding receiver in NCAA Division I FBS in his honor. Over his career, Biletnikoff recorded 589 receptions for 8,974 yards and 76 touchdowns, including 10 straight seasons with 40 or more receptions. He played in Super Bowl II and Super Bowl XI with the Raiders, earning MVP honors in Super Bowl XI during the team’s victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
