Frank Mir Biography

Frank Mir, born Francisco Santos Miranda III on May 24, 1979, is an American former mixed martial artist. He has competed in the heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and later finished his professional MMA career in Bellator MMA. Mir joined the wrestling team at Bonanza High School during his junior year and lost his first nine matches. During his senior year in 1998, he achieved a record of 44 wins and one loss, capturing the state championship. He also played fullback and defensive end on the school's football team, which reached the Southern Zone semifinals in 1997. Mir made his professional debut against Jerome Smith at HOOKnSHOOT: Showdown on July 14, 2001. He won the bout by unanimous decision after two rounds.
