Fernando Gabriel Tatis Medina Jr., nicknamed El Niño and El Bebo, is a Dominican professional baseball player born on January 2, 1999, who has played as a right fielder and infielder for the San Diego Padres in Major League Baseball. He earned the Silver Slugger Award in 2020 and signed a 14-year, $340 million contract extension prior to the 2021 season. Tatis has received Platinum Glove Awards in 2023 and 2025 for his defensive performance. He has made All-Star appearances in 2024 and 2025, representing his elite standing in the league. In 2016, he played for the Arizona League Padres and the Tri-City Dust Devils, batting a combined .273 with 25 RBIs and 15 errors in 55 games, posting a .904 fielding percentage. During 2017, he played 117 games for the Fort Wayne TinCaps and 14 for the San Antonio Missions, recording a .278 batting average, 22 home runs, 75 RBIs, 32 stolen bases, 30 errors, and a .936 fielding percentage. On July 23, 2018, he underwent surgery to treat a broken left thumb and ligament damage sustained during a head-first slide.
