Eric Chavez Biography

Eric Cesar Chavez, born December 7, 1977, is an American professional baseball coach and former third baseman. Chavez has played in Major League Baseball for the Oakland Athletics from 1998 to 2010, the New York Yankees from 2011 to 2012, and the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2013 to 2014. He earned six Gold Glove Awards between 2001 and 2006 and received a Silver Slugger Award in 2002. Chavez served as the bench coach for the New York Mets during the 2023 season, following roles as hitting coach in 2022 and 2024–2025. He was recognized as a high school All-American, earning a spot on the ABCA/Rawlings High School All-America Second Team. The Oakland Athletics selected Chavez in the first round, with the tenth overall pick, of the 1996 Major League Baseball draft. Before the 1998 season began, he was promoted to the Double-A Huntsville Stars.
