Eric Berry Biography

James Eric Berry, born December 29, 1988, was an American former professional football player who played safety for the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL. He played college football for the Tennessee Volunteers, earning unanimous All-American honors twice and recognition as the top collegiate defensive back. Berry was selected fifth overall by the Chiefs in the 2010 NFL draft. After completing chemotherapy and being declared cancer free, he returned for the 2015 season and earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors. He played cornerback and quarterback, leading Creekside to a 37–5 record as a starter. Following his standout high school career, Berry was invited to play in the 2007 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He was the anchor leg of the 2006 Class 4A state championship 4 × 400 meters relay team.
