Eddie Murray Biography

Eddie Clarence Murray, nicknamed Steady Eddie, is an American former professional Major League Baseball player born on February 24, 1956, who played as a first baseman, designated hitter, and coach. He spent most of his MLB career with the Baltimore Orioles, ranking fourth in team history in both games played and hits. Though he never won a Most Valuable Player Award, Murray finished in the top ten in MVP voting on eight occasions. Murray has more RBIs than any other MLB switch-hitter, with 996 runs batted in during the 1980s, a total higher than any other player in that decade. Murray began his playing career with the Orioles in 1977 after being drafted in 1973. He appeared in the World Series twice with the Orioles, winning in 1983 when he hit two home runs in Game 5 of the series, a 5–0 victory. In his first twelve seasons, Murray had eleven 20-HR seasons, led the league in home runs in 1981 with 22, and recorded five seasons with over 100 RBIs in a six-year span, winning two Silver Slugger Awards.
