Dwight Clark Biography

Dwight Edward Clark, born January 8, 1957, played as a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL from 1979 to 1987. He belonged to the first two San Francisco teams that won Super Bowl championships. On January 10, 1982, he caught the game-winning touchdown pass from quarterback Joe Montana in the NFC Championship Game. Standing 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m), Clark initially preferred basketball but chose college football at Clemson University. As a freshman, he transitioned to wide receiver after the team recruited four additional quarterbacks. He considered transferring to play basketball at Appalachian State University before being granted offensive playing time. In his senior year of 1978, Clemson posted an 11–1 record, won the Gator Bowl against Ohio State, and finished sixth in the final AP poll.
