Doug Flutie, born on October 23, 1962, played professional football as a quarterback for 21 seasons. Flutie played 12 seasons in the National Football League, eight in the Canadian Football League, and one in the United States Football League. He began his professional career with the USFL's New Jersey Generals, and was later selected 285th overall by the Los Angeles Rams in the 11th round of the 1985 NFL draft. In 1998 Flutie rejoined the NFL with the Buffalo Bills and earned Pro Bowl and Comeback Player of the Year recognition after guiding the team to playoff qualification. The Bills secured a playoff spot the next season with his contribution, though he was replaced during their Wild Card round loss. Doug Flutie concluded his career as a backup quarterback with the New England Patriots in 2005 after his final start with the San Diego Chargers in 2001. Flutie played football at Boston College from 1981 to 1984, winning the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award, and Davey O'Brien Award in his senior year of 1984.
