Don Maynard Biography

Donald Rogers Maynard was born on January 25, 1935, and passed away on January 10, 2022, as an American professional football player. Maynard has played for the New York Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Shreveport Steamer of the World Football League. He was selected as an AFL All-Star four times and was a member of the Super Bowl III champion New York Jets. The New York Jets retired his jersey number 13 in recognition of his contributions. Maynard was known as Country Don or simply Country, a quick and sure-handed receiver who set career records for receiving yards and yards per reception. The New York Giants drafted Maynard in the ninth round with the 109th overall pick in 1957. He was the first player to sign with the New York Titans in 1960, a team that later became the Jets in 1963.
