Dominique Wilkins Biography

Jacques Dominique Wilkins, born on January 12, 1960, is an American former professional basketball player who primarily played for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association. Wilkins is a nine-time NBA All-Star and a seven-time All-NBA Team member, widely recognized as one of the most acrobatic slam dunkers in NBA history, earning the nickname the Human Highlight Film. Wilkins holds the Atlanta Hawks franchise record for most seasons played with 12, most games with 882, most minutes with 32,545, most career points with 23,292, and highest points per game average at 26.4. Dominique Wilkins topped the NBA in scoring during the 1985–86 season. After 11 seasons with the Hawks, Wilkins played briefly for the Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics, Panathinaikos, Fortitudo Bologna, San Antonio Spurs, and Orlando Magic before retiring in 1999. As a member of the U.S. men's national team, Wilkins won gold at the 1994 FIBA World Championship. Wilkins enrolled at the University of Georgia in 1979, where he built a reputation as an exciting player.
